Making History: Texas A&M’s Women Track and Field Team

 For several decades women went underrepresented in Aggie sports. Fortunately, the 1979 yearbook showcased a consequential women’s track and field team. The photo exhibits not only the fashion trends of the time but a noteworthy Aggie female athlete, Linda (Waltman) Cornelius. Cornelius became not only the first woman inducted into the Texas A&M athletes hall of fame, but the first female Aggie Olympian. While she never got the opportunity to compete due to the boycott of the Olympics in 1980 the year she made the team, she nonetheless is representative of the positive advancements of the university.
